GMP stands for "Good Manufacturing Practice". It is a set of rules that ensures a product is made the same way in every batch, with records kept and full traceability.
The essence is this: quality is guaranteed not by testing the finished product, but by controlling every step of the process.
What does it cover?
The entire chain, from receiving raw materials to shipping the finished product. Which supplier each raw material came from, which analyses it was accepted with and under what conditions it was stored are all recorded.
Cleanliness of the production area, calibration of equipment, staff hygiene and training are also within scope. Production records are kept for every batch; these records can be reviewed retrospectively.
Analysis and batch traceability
In GMP-compliant production, every batch is analysed. Parameters such as active ingredient content, microbiological safety and heavy metals are checked.
Thanks to the batch number, it is possible to trace which raw material batch a product was made from, on which date and on which line. This allows targeted action should a problem ever arise.
What does it mean for the consumer?
GMP does not say a product is "effective"; what it says is that the product in the box is consistent with its label and was made under controlled conditions.
This is one of the concrete criteria you can look at when choosing a supplement. Independent of brand storytelling, it shows whether production takes place within an audited system.
